Is it safe to buy a Cat D car that has been repaired? Online car buying forums are split and for every post that says "walk away" there's another that claims "they're great value for money". The bottom line is do your research, do your sums, and buy the right car at the right price. Expect a discount of at least 30% off the usual list price. Follow these rules and you should end up with a good car that under normal circumstances may have been unaffordable. Cat D cars don't need a VIC (vehicle identity check) inspection to be returned to the road but be aware they are recorded as 'Category D' with DVLA, HPI, AA, and the like.
